FAQs

Wagyu cattle have Japanese genetics that create incredible marbling (those beautiful white fat streaks) throughout the meat. This marbling makes the beef incredibly tender, flavorful, and juicy. Our American Wagyu cattle have at least 50% Japanese genetics and are grain-finished to develop that signature marbling. Our Japanese Wagyu have 100% traceable Japanese genetics, and are certified with the American Wagyu Association.
When you buy from Willis D Ranch, you are getting Wagyu beef that typically costs $30-$100+/lb. at grocery stores, and even more at high end restaurants. How It Works
1. Reserve Your Wagyu Beef
Reserve your whole or half steer when you complete the online form, pay the deposit, and sign the purchase agreement (via Docusign). A representative from the ranch will then contact you about an approximate harvest date, share additional information with you, and answer any questions that you might have.
2. Contact our local butcher
Willis D Ranch will provide you with a cut sheet and contact information for you to work directly with our local butcher. You can reach out to them with any questions you might have, or any requests for custom cuts. Note that the butcher is a separate business transaction, and payment arrangements will need to be made through them. We have a longstanding relationship with our local butcher, and are happy to provide you with any assistance that you might need while dealing directly with them.
3. Get Your Order
You can arrange to pick up your meat, or have it shipped to you. Please ask us for a list of butchers that offer shipping, otherwise beef processed by our local butcher is typically only available for pick up. Note that special delivery arrangements via Willis D Ranch might be possible, we are always looking for ways to meet our customers' needs.
Raising Cattle On Willis D Ranch
Our Central California grass-fed cattle roam our 1200 acre family ranch located just outside of Santa Maria, CA. Our cattle are raised without antibiotics or growth hormones, and the grass they graze is free from pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Here on the Willis D Ranch, our grazing methods continue to improve the biodiversity of the land that we care so very much about.
Our certified Japanese Wagyu cattle produce beef that's in a class of its own—legendary marbling, extraordinary tenderness, and that unmistakable rich, buttery flavor. It's the kind of beef that turns a simple meal into a celebration.
We practice diverse, non-monoculture farming by maintaining a variety of plant species in our pastures. This approach improves soil health, increases biodiversity, reduces pest problems naturally, and provides our cattle with a varied, nutrient-rich diet that enhances the flavor and nutritional profile of our meat.
